The Fish With Ruby Eye was hung in Saint John The Divine Cathedral, New York City for six months in 1986-87. The materials included fiber optics, bubble wrap, steel, wood, plexiglass and electric motors. The individual columns of light were motorized and turned slowly as their colors changed, giving the fish the appearance of swimming. Most importantly, this fish had a red ruby for its eye. This is a symbol that first came to me in a dream. For me, the red ruby has always symbolized my heart or the heart of humanity. Therefore, this fish sees with its heart. This sculpture did not remain at Saint John The Divine and is now in storage - that's too bad because its my father's favorite sculpture of all of the public projects I've done.
